Do You Give From Your Heart?

Walking In God’s Favor: Each of you should give whatever you have decided. You shouldn’t be sorry that you gave or feel forced to give, since God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7 GW

The Heart That Gives Gains

Why would God say He loves a cheerful giver? Giving is an emotional experience that involves the heart.  The word of God says that where your treasures are, that’s where your heart will be also. You must make giving a part of your day to day Christian experience. Here’s how to start.

  • Pray…Ask for God’s power to change your heart. David asked  God for a clean heart. Only God has the ability to change hearts. God can transform your thinking if you give Him permission.
  • Seek…Discover God’s wisdom in His Word. Turn off the TV,  iPad, cell phone and unplug. Get into a regular Bible study group. How can you walk in God’s wisdom if you rarely read His divine road map?
  • Fellowship…Rub shoulders with people who are generous givers of their time, talents, treasure (money) & temple(body) in honor of God. Hang around people who live a stewardship lifestyle and are great examples of faithfulness.
  • Share…Tell your experience to others of how God has blessed your faithfulness. Many times you do not realize God is all you need, until God is all you got.

Real Giving Happens When You Give From The Heart

People can give more when they are not in bondage to debt and credit cards.  It is difficult to give cheerfully to the Kingdom when you have overextended yourself financially. Learn to say “No” to the person in the mirror and “Yes” to the Giver & Creator of life.BHFM 2020

Do You Put People Before Possessions?

Walking in God’s favor: Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. Proverbs 11:4 (NIV)

Do not let anyone change who you are to become what they need

We Christians in America have become so materialistic in our thinking. You have probably heard someone say, ” The one who dies with the most toys wins” or “The one with the gold makes the rules.”

The things in this world are temporal, but the things of God are eternal.  I believe Jesus Christ is returning for a people – not possessions. So, what are you doing to build intimate relationships with those you love? How are you investing your financial resources to better your relationship with God and meaningful others?

Communication is what makes relationships strong

When you develop intimate relationships, you do it one-to-one. Your attention is focused on one person. Their needs become your priority. Dr David and Teresa Ferguson, co-authors of Intimate Encounters says, “Intimate relationships takes time and communications.”

Ardella and I will be going on a much needed Caribbean Cruise in the next few days. For me the best part of the 5-day cruise is the six-hour drive to Mobile, Alabama to embark on the Carnival Fantasy Cruise Ship. No children, no grandchildren, we forget about  our work, our ministries, our bills, we turn off our smart phones and we take time  to focus our attention on each other.

This includes sharing one’s feelings, putting one another first, sympathetic listening, and caring for one another. Sharing your heart with family and having meaningful relationships with others is what life is truly about. Life is meant to be shared. Sharing the love of  God with those we care about is priority for the Level 4 Steward.A MJV

Great satisfaction comes from sharing with others.

There is nothing like the power of your own life story. Everyone has a story to tell.  How are you being blessed today? Sharing your life experiences with others encourages them and gives them hope.  Tell others how you have overcome life’s struggles; how your faith brings stability in your life; how living by biblical principles gives you the wisdom to look around the corner to prepare for the storms of life. And finally tell others of your spiritual discovery for your life’s work.

You are invited to join us next month February 8th at 5PM on Oakwood University WJOU Radio Station Ardella and I will have the wonderful opportunity to share our hearts. Over the years we have been blessed to mentor hundreds of young families in their finances. We will openly shared the wisdom we have learned in Financial Peace University.

Prayer of blessing: Lord help me to value relationships and intentionally share my story.

A leader lives with people to know their problems. A leader lives with God in order to solve them. John Maxwell

Walking in God’s favor: No prolonged infancies among us, please. We’ll not tolerate babes in the woods, small children who are an easy mark for impostors. God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love—like Christ in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do. He keeps us in step with each other. His very breath and blood flow through us, nourishing us so that we will grow up healthy in God, robust in love. Ephesians 4:15-16 Message Bible

Words may lie, but action will always tell the truth

The truth is, we all have areas in our lives that we need to grow in. Your area of growth is probably different from my area of growth. We must truthfully acknowledge our area of weakness and face it.

My truth is I waste  far too much time watching TV, surfing the internet and on social media.  After reading Rick Warren’s book “The Purpose Drive Life ” I was motivated to initiate 3 immediate changes in my life.

1. I  would begin to limit the amount of television, internet and social media I consumed.

2. I would spend the best time of my day in prayer, read my bible and something positive.

3. I would release my spiritual side and invest time growing my inner man.

Live a life that feels good on the inside, not just one that looks good on the outside

My purpose was to seek the highest potential for my life. It has made an incredible difference. After making these 3 seemingly small changes I have been motivated to write this blog and self-published several books with Ardella. Our purpose is to share the goodness of God in our lives with family, friends and meaningful others.  I now choose to invest my time and develop my talents wisely.

Yes you have an extremely important role in your spiritual discovery.  You are called for a moment like this in time. You are given unique gifts to develop over your lifetime and you have an assignment or  purpose that you have the potential to fulfill.

Prayer of blessing: Lord teach us to the live and speak the truth in love.

If you represent God, you should represent Him in a positive way and not in a way that causes people to question God or His ways. G. E. Patterson

What You See Is What You Get

I enjoy listening to 70′s R&B music. One of my favorite R&B groups, The Dramatics, performed one of their many hit songs entitled; What You See is What You Get. We believe through the power of the Holy Spirit you must be committed to being a person of integrity. You must become a “What You See Is What You Get” person.

I heard one spiritual leader Pastor Benjamin Jones say “Your career ends when you die, but your character goes on for eternity”. Gods truly wants to develop your character. He sent his son Jesus Christ to be your earthly example.

It Takes Everything

Level 4  stewards are people of integrity. They follow through with what they say they’re going to do. Level 4  stewards are people whose word is their bond. Level 4  stewards are good examples and good leaders. They are an extremely positive witness to those who are in their circle of influence.

How you spend and relate to money has more to say about your character than anything else. Have you ever spent money you don’t have, for something you don’t need,  to impress people you don’t know? Many times money will reveal our inner selves; our true hearts.

Honest Hearts Produces Honest Actions

You are either a faithful steward or a unfaithful steward; a good example or a poor example. There is no in between. I clearly remember speaking at a Community of Faith Empowerment Session for a church on the topic of stewardship. When I completed my presentation I sat down next to Ardella and whispered “How did I do Honey?

Ardella looked dead into my eyes and asked, “Why are you talking about something you are not doing yourself?” Ouch! Yeah that hurts, but I made up my mind that day not to stand in front of people and talk about something I was not practicing in my own life. That I would be a husband, father, grandfather and business man of integrity.

When Jesus Christ returned to heaven to be with his father, he sent you a Comforter to empower you to overcome selfishness, lust, greed, deceitfulness, and covetousness so you can walk in His love, freedom, and favor. You can become a person of integrity.

Prayer of Blessing: Lord help us to live authentically.

Without forgiveness, there’s no future. Desmond Tutu

Walking in God’s Favor: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV

Trust Takes Years to Build, Seconds to Destroy, and Forever to Repair

A MJV SOW

In our society people will take advantage of  your trust. They will scheme, swindle and fraudulently go after your wealth. People like Bernard Madoff, who perpetrated over a 50 billion dollar Ponzi scheme have made money their God. They have no problem ripping you off, if it puts money into their pockets. They knowingly take advantage of their influence, power, and wealth.

Mistakes Are Forgivable If One Has the Courage to Admit Them

Level 4 Stewards practice the spiritual principle of forgiveness.  They have personally experienced the transformational power of forgiveness in their own lives and extend that kind of forgiveness to others.  When someone takes advantage of you, your faith can restore your loss in many ways.

Forgiveness Does Not Change the Past, But it Does Enlarge the Future

Forgiveness is not a option for the Level 4 Steward. They extend grace to others, learn from the experience and move on with their life’s mission. You can only experience this kind of forgiveness when you are connected to the Source of forgiveness. We will close this post with a quote from Billy Graham  ” Man has two great spiritual needs. One is for forgiveness. The other is for goodness.”

Prayer of Blessings: Lord teach us to forgive.

Credit buying is much like being drunk. The buzz happens immediately and give you a lift. The hangover comes the day after. Joyce Brothers

Walking in God’s favor: The rich rule over the poor and the borrower is slave to the lender. Provider 22:7  NIV

Early to bed and early to rise, makes one healthy, wealthy and wise.

We have personally experience family and friends who have become really excited about opportunities that has enlightened their minds to the unlimited earning potential we enjoy here in America. We enjoy walking along side those individuals  who have a plan, passion, and a purpose for becoming wealthy.  We can be in the middle of a recession and they will continue to seek creative ways to realize their financial dreams.

Deciding to become a better steward of your wealth takes wisdom, diligence and prayer. If you seek the spiritual power that God gives to get wealth, you are going to have to think differently and make choices that will move you toward your financial destiny.

Get debt-free first, that’s what frees up your income so you can win.

You will be surprised to discover the profile of those who accumulate financial prosperity in America. According to Thomas J. Stanley & Williams D. Danko authors of the The Millionaire Next Door who researched Americans that have a net worth of a $1 million, or more.

Their findings are interesting. Usually the person is an entrepreneur, who has lived in the same city all their adult life. The own either a service company, small factory or chain of stores. They remain in a lifetime relationship and have married once. They live next door to people with a fraction of their wealth. They earned their money on they own and 80%  are first generation rich.

Here are seven common traits found in people who successfully create wealth: ( Adapted from the The Millionaire Next Door)

1. The live well below their means.

2. They balance and integrated their time, energy and money efficiently in ways that create wealth.

3. The believe that financial independence in more important that displaying high social status.

4. Their parents did not give them their wealth.

5. Their adult children are economically self-sufficient.

Freedom from debt is worth more than any amount you can earn.FPU Class

Jesse Jackson says in book It’s About Money, ” Income without wealth, is just flash without cash.” Always remember  income is based on your paycheck and wealth is based on your assets. (what you own)

In closing I leave you with the words of King Solomon the riches man who ever lived on the planet. “Do not wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit. In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle. ” Proverbs 23:4,5 (NLT)

Recently Ardella and I had the wonderful experience of celebrating our 36th wedding anniversary. For me the best part of the celebrating our anniversary is the time we spend together alone. No children, no grandchildren, we forget about our ministries, our investments, we turn off our phones and we take time  to focus our attention on each other.

This includes sharing one’s feelings, putting others first, sympathetic listening, and caring for one another.
